유기동물, 입양, 사지말고 입양하세요 라는 말들이 낯설었던 시기에도 동물권을 위해 활동하는 많은 분들이 있었습니다. 

2011년 8월 애니멀 호더 가정에서 반려견들이 방치 및 학대 받고 있다는 제보를 받게 되었습니다. 활동가 네 분이서 그곳으로부터 개 5마리를 구조하게 되었지만 새로운 가정을 찾을 통로를 찾지못해 막막해하던 중 직접 거리로 나서게 되었습니다. 그들은 케이지 하나와 맨몸으로 이태원 거리에서 "입양하세요"를 외쳤고 놀랍게도 시민들은 환호와 박수를 보냈습니다. 외국인들은 개를 먹는 나라에서 이와 같은 활동을 하냐며 놀라워 하였습니다. 그리고 그 날 5마리 모두의 임시보호 및 입양을 성사시켰습니다. 

네스트, 그렇게 시작하였습니다. 

대한민국 최초 거리 입양 캠페인, 그 날의 가슴 뜨거웠던 순간을 잊지 않고 있습니다. 순수하고 열정적인 마음 또한 여전히 갖고 있습니다. 그 후 13년 동안 서울시 용산구 지역에서 약 530여회(2024년 1월 기준)의 입양 캠페인을 운영해오고 있습니다. 캠페인을 진행해오는 동안 용산구 지역 유기동물의 안락사율 0%라는 쾌거를 이룰 수 있었습니다. 하지만 3가구 당 1가구가 동물을 반려하고 있다는 오늘날에도 여전히 많은 동물들이 버려지고 학대받고 방치되고 있습니다.

Even in a time when the phrases "Do not buy" and "adoption," were unfamiliar, there were many people working for animal rights. In August 2011, we received a report that dogs were being neglected and abused at an animal hoarder's home. Four activists rescued five dogs from the home, but when they couldn't find a way to find them new homes, they took to the streets. With only a cage and their bare bodies, they shouted "Adopt a dog" on the streets of Itaewon, and to their surprise, the public cheered and applauded. Foreigners were surprised that they were doing this in a dog-eating country. We managed to temporarily shelter and adopt all five dogs that day. Nest, that's how it started. We have never forgotten the excitement of that day, the first street adoption campaign in Korea. In the 13 years since then, we have run about 530 adoption campaigns (as of January 2024) in the Yongsan-gu area of Seoul. Over the course of our campaigns, we have been able to achieve a 0% euthanasia rate for stray animals in Yongsan-gu. However, even today, when one in every three households owns an animal, many animals are still abandoned, abused, and neglected.
